Facets of freedom: kick-off event with Nobel Prize winners
With the lecture series “Facets of Freedom”, the University of Jena invites you to public panel discussions in which renowned personalities from science, culture and the media discuss central questions of freedom and democracy.
Two Nobel Prize winners are expected to kick off the event on November 6, 2024: 2009 Nobel Prize for Literature winner Herta Müller, and 2022 Nobel Peace Prize winner Irina Scherbakowa. Moderated by Jens Bisky, the guests will talk about their personal experiences with communist dictatorship and report on historical events in the forced labor camps of the Soviet Gulag. The discussion will also focus on the war against Ukraine and the current challenges facing a free and democratic Europe.
The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in Lecture Hall 1 at the University of Jena, Carl-Zeiß-Str. 3. Participation is open to the public, but registration is required: Please register here.
