Lecture by Andrea Wulf on Alexander von Humboldt

Experience the award-winning author Andrea Wulf in an impressively illustrated lecture on Alexander von Humboldt (1769-1859). The great scientist and explorer led a life full of adventures and discoveries. Wulf talks about his expeditions, scientific observations and poetic tales, which inspired naturalists such as Darwin and Goethe as well as politicians such as Jefferson and Bolivar. Humboldt explained nature as a complex web of life and warned of human-induced climate change as early as 1800.

The lecture is organized by the Max Planck Institute for Geoanthropology and the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina as part of the conference “Crossing Boundaries 2024: The Anthropocene”.

The lecture will be held in English in the historic Volkshaus in Jena. Admission is free, registration is not required. Come early to secure a place.
